214 Signs of the Times 1

This post is probably cheating a bit, as it’s a lot like the “Signs Seen Along the Way” ones I have done several times before, but I see it as a bit different since I’m trying to focus just on signs (and the like) which seem particularly appropriate to the present.  Hence, some of these MAY be a bit more political than I usually include, but I hope you will agree that they ARE topical.  Anyway, here we go….

Given the incredible fires that have burned so much of the west this summer, I’m just not quite sure how to take this sign.  I don’t know if it’s prophetic, apocalyptic, or what?  But it sure struck me as timely.
 
I suppose this isn’t really a “sign,” but after thinking about the picture above, I couldn’t help but be reminded of having seen this cartoon not long ago.

Given the fact that we are STILL arguing over whether the COVID-19 pandemic is real, or just some sort of anti-Trumpian, ”Chinese/Democrat” plot to take over the world from us good folks who only want to overthrow elections and establish an oligarchy of those with  (mostly) inherited wealth, who don’t pay taxes because they are “so smart” (in spite of the fact that they did NOT graduate from college with any sort of academic recognition), and who believe that personal loyalty to “The LEADER” is more  important than having even a cursory knowledge of the U.S. Constitution, I found this sign to be quite refreshing and most amusing.

Given the reality of COVID-19, THIS sign amused me considerably, but maybe I’m just wishing for a return to the 80’s.  (I can NOT quite believe that I, a child of the 50’s and 60’s could EVER really wish for a return to the 80’s, but there you go ….

I HAVE to get away from the current political state of the country, so I’m going to include a few signs which I found to be of a less “political” nature, but which still seemed timely.
 
This picture of someone dealing out samples at Costco (I presume) struck me as a sign of the times which I had hoped were over.  But maybe not!?  Anyway, the picture made me laugh in spite of it’s possible truth.

I confess that when I saw this “sign” picture I wasn’t sure if I should laugh or cry.  I think it’s funny, but it also says something a bit sad about the general quality of education in our time.

I feel rather the same about this, next sign, but I’m probably more amused and less saddened by it.

Perhaps the BEST sign I’ve seen recently, however, is this one.  Even after years of experience building sets, dealing with lighting equipment, and playing with special effects stuff, I have to sympathize with people who really WANT to “do it themselves,” but probably should leave it to the experts.  Still, this sign seems to be just a bit cruel to husbands everywhere.

Oh, well.  I guess that reality can be painful at times.
