208 Signs Seen Along the Way 4

8/12/2021

I see it’s been a while since I posted about signs I have seen (or encountered in some fashion), so, looking over my collection, it seemed that I had enough material to put one together.  That being the case, I thought I would do so.  Some of these aren’t really signs, but they sort of seem to fit the genre, if not the fact.

Enjoy!

This is really an official postmark, but I found it quite amusing, and NO, I didn’t make this up, it was on a piece of mail we received.

This also isn’t a sign. It was on a tee shirt at the Downton Abbey exhibit which Bonnie and I went to on the Biltmore Estate.  But, being fond of mysteries, I couldn’t resist (especially because of the pun).

I thought it amusing, if not always true.

Sometimes you just see something which is entirely too perfect to be true, such as this picture I ran across a while back.  Still, the person who posted it where I found it claimed that she/he just saw it on the street and took a picture.

Now, I really doubt that this (below) is a REAL sign, but one can never be too sure and it’s probably not wise to make assumptions relating to other people’s pets.  People are funny about them at times…

I don’t approve of defacing official signs, but I have to admit that this one has provided for a whole conversation.  That’s unusual for a simple sign on a street.

The situation can arise when even a simple sign can acquire some sort of philosophical consequences.  Take this one for example…

Think about it!  There are several things going on all at once here.  My first thought was that OBVIOUSMAN had struck again, but the more I think about it, the more levels seem to be revealed.  Please let me know if you feel you have arrived at a complete explanation.

This isn’t really a sign, I suppose, but it COULD be.  I made me laugh quite a lot when I first saw it, so I thought I would include it, even if it isn’t, really, a sign.

On the other side of things, every so often I encounter a sign of some sort which I find more annoying than amusing.  This is an example of that type.
Picture
I suppose that I would find it less obnoxious if this wasn’t quite so blatantly a picture of Biltmore House (one of the best-known pictures of it, in fact) and the “Institute” wasn’t what appears to be a rather amateurish Harry Potter “Tumblr” fan site.  I guess that I just don’t have a great sense of humor when people behave stupidly on the Internet.  I mean, Meryl Streep as Headmistress?  Really?  But, unless the folks whose images they have “borrowed” for their “fannish” use object, I suppose they aren’t hurting anyone; I just wish they would exercise greater cleverness.  I just don’t enjoy dumb stuff done poorly.

However, I’ll be back in a couple of weeks (probably with some other sort of frivolity, but who knows at this point).  I just keep finding weird stuff and coming up with odd ideas.  I guess a lifetime in the theatre just may have created some sort of fascination with the strange.  Then again, maybe I’ve just been this odd all of my life, but I didn’t know it until I had a chance to slow down and let it bloom.

Oh, well.  It is what it is…

LLAP,

Dr. B
